Tsuruya
A moment to unwind in the city.
Located in Minamioi, Shinagawa, Tsuruya serves satisfying fish set meals by day and izakaya fare by night, featuring thick line-caught aji fry, grilled Kinkasan mackerel, and Pacific bluefin tuna.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Break into the fried horse mackerel served on a generous platter, and a satisfying crunch gives way to the thick, fluffy tenderness of the fish within. Set along a side street in Minamioi, Tsuruya is an unpretentious teishoku restaurant built around seafood. Lunch draws a steady stream of diners looking for wholesome meal sets, with the line-caught aji fry set featuring 2 large butterflied fillets proving especially popular for a hearty midday meal.
Among the grilled choices, the salted Kinkasan mackerel set stands out, cooked patiently to order. The generous cut is well-seasoned with a pleasing richness from its natural oils, deepening in savory flavor with every bite and pairing effortlessly with steamed white rice. Meanwhile, strips of paper along the wall and daily blackboard specials feature plenty of raw options depending on the morning haul, including chunks of Pacific bluefin tuna, assorted tuna platters, and seafood rice bowls.
As dusk settles, the shop shifts smoothly into izakaya mode, buzzing with diners grazing on fresh sashimi and side dishes alongside beer, sake, or a glass of Hoppy. Set meals remain available through the evening, making the counter equally welcoming for a solo dinner. Payment is cash only, with no support for transit IC cards, so keep bills on hand before taking a seat.
